Even though she outlived her son by 29 years she was never able to get over her 13-year-old boy dying. She always appeared as sad as the day her beloved David died, like it had happened yesterday. Furthermore, Barrie trying to replace David did not help his mother overcome the loss of her favourite son.

When their mother fell into deep despair after he died Barrie tried to become more like his brother until he realised he could not be anyone but himself. One of Barrie’s siblings, his older brother David, who had died in an ice-skating accident 3 seems to have given inspiration to a certain aspect of Peter Pan. 2 However, the most interesting aspect is finding similarities between Peter Pan and Barrie himself.

Barrie always claimed that he created Peter Pan by violently rubbing the five Llewelyn Davies boys together and that Pan was the spark he got from them. It is safe to say that Barrie had two main sources of inspiration, his older brother David and the Llewelyn Davies family.
